“Education means teaching a child to be curious, to wonder, to reflect, to Inquire. The child who asks becomes a partner in the learning process, an active recipient. To ask is to grow. ” - Jonathan Sacks
hebrew in a hurry
"My child just turned twelve and suddenly realized that she wants to become Bat Mitzvah...but she's never been to Hebrew school. Can you help?"

Yes, I can! With twice-a-week lessons of 45 minutes each and about two months I can take your child from "does not know even one letter" to reading the Sh'ma. Older students are generally more disciplined and focused than the typical beginning third grader and we can move more quickly without sacrificing learning. Learning all of the necessary prayers takes much longer, of course, but it all begins with being able to decode. If your child had a late start to learning Hebrew, this is a great option!
note: Every child learns differently so I will never make a blanket guarantee but this has been my experience so far.

"My child's schedule is too complicated to enroll him in our temple's religious school but we want him to have a Jewish education. Can you help?"

I sure can! Whether you just want your child to learn to decode Hebrew or you desire a more robust Jewish education, including holidays and some Torah stories, I can do that.

In many synagogue programs students start to learn decoding casually in second grade and more formally in third. If you are looking to replace a traditional classroom experience, third grade is probably a good place to start, especially if you are looking for a full program that includes Judaic studies in addition to Hebrew.

Although I haven't had adult students yet, if you are a grown-up who never learned Hebrew or who forgot most of what you once knew and want to relearn I'm sure I can work with you, too!
hebrew for struggling students

"My child is dyslexic/has school anxiety/has ADHD/struggles with school but they want to learn how to read Hebrew. Can you help?"

You bet! If your child is interested in learning, I can help them to be successful.

As part of my studies as both an undergrad and later, as a graduate student, I worked with many special populations and with hundreds of children. For many children for whom learning doesn't always come easily, remote one-on-one sessions do two very important things - they remove the anxiety associated with feeling like they can't keep up with their peers and they put the learning right in front of them in a way that leaves little room for distraction. One of my favorite parts of teaching one-on-one is that I get to focus 100% on your child - adapting to their successes and struggles, offering different ways to learn when needed, and responding immediately to the things they are stuck on.

note: Every child learns differently so I will never make a blanket guarantee that every child will find success with Hebrew, despite their challenges...but I feel confident in saying that every child can make progress and can gain something from our sessions.
